Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
