Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
