This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
